Verify your Trezor Hardware Wallet with 21bitcoin

Updated yesterday

To add a BitBox02, proceed as follows:

  1. In your 21bitcoin app, tap on the ‘₿ tab’ in the navigation bar,

  2. Now tap on ‘Manage wallets’ and

  3. Then tap on ‘Add New Wallet’,

  4. Now tap on ‘Private Wallet’.

In the drop-down menu at the top, you can select whether you want to add a Single Address or an xPub Wallet.

How to find the xPub in Trezor Suite

  1. Select the account for which you would like to receive the xPub

  2. On the right-hand side, switch to the ‘Account’ tab

  3. Click on ‘Show Public Key’

  4. Your extended public key will be displayed. You can either copy this and send it to your smartphone or scan the QR code later with the 21bitcoin app

Enter a name for the wallet and copy the Bitcoin address or your xPub into the line ‘Bitcoin Address’ or ‘xPub...’. Alternatively, you can also scan the QR code of the address using the ‘QR Code’ button.

Then tap on ‘Continue’, read the information on ‘Verify Wallet Ownership’ and then tap on ‘Continue’ again.

You now have two options for verifying your wallet ownership.

1. 2FA Signature

This is the easiest and quickest way and we recommend that you verify your wallet using a 2FA signature if this is technically possible for you.

Tap on ‘2FA signature’. You will then see your wallet details. If everything is correct, tap on ‘Confirm’ and complete the two-factor authentication.

2. Digital Signature (for Single Adresses only)

Tap on ‘Digital signature’. You will then see your wallet details. If everything is correct, tap on ‘Confirm’.

Next, we will send you an email. From here we will proceed on your computer.

Make sure that your Trezor Hardware Wallet is connected to your computer and unlocked and that you are on the home screen of your Trezor Wallet and in Trezor Suite.

Now open the email from 21bitcoin and click on the link.

Note: To avoid possible problems, please use Google Chrome, Edge or Opera web browser for the following steps.

Next, click on ‘Trezor’. The following message appears:

The following tab will open in your browser window:

Click on ‘Allow once for this session’.

You will now see the following selection:

Click on ‘Standard wallet’ and you will receive the message ‘Follow instructions on your device’.

You can now continue on your Trezor hardware wallet:

Once you have confirmed the signature on your Trezor Hardware Wallet, you will see a success message in your browser window:

Note: The Bitcoin address you sign not necessarily have to match the Bitcoin address you entered with 21bitcoin (more information on this can be found further down under Troubleshooting).

Congratulations! You have successfully signed your address and can use it in your 21bitcoin app to send Bitcoin.

Troubleshooting

The Bitcoin address you verified does not match the Bitcoin address stored at 21bitcoin

As soon as you enter a Bitcoin address in the 21bitcoin app and want to confirm it via digital signature, it can happen that your hardware wallet generates a new address for the signature - we have no influence on this and therefore add the new address to the hardware wallet with a note in the app (this is basically not a problem, as a wallet can generate countless Bitcoin addresses that belong to this one wallet, but can cause confusion).

Notification in the app

You can think of it as if you had a bank account with different IBANs (e.g. virtual IBANs) that all lead to the same account.

How can you check whether the signed Bitcoin address actually belongs to your Trezor Wallet?

As the Bitcoin address was generated by your Trezor hardware wallet during signing, you can be sure that it belongs to this wallet. Your wallet can generate countless Bitcoin addresses that all lead to the same wallet.

2FA signature does not work

If the 2FA signature does not work, this may either be because you have deactivated biometric authentication or because the 21bitcoin app does not have the authorization to use biometric authentication.

Notification
